Holler Classic dealerships give back
#TeamHondaCares Served Local School, Food Bank and Ronald McDonald House
ORLANDO, Fla. (July 1, 2019) – It was back to summer school for a team of associates from two local car dealerships. But they weren’t there to study; they were there to give of their time and enthusiasm to 60 students and teachers of Ivey Lane Elementary School in Orange County. That’s not all they did. They also sorted and packed donations at the Second Harvest Food Bank (4 tons!) and prepared meals for 35 Ronald McDonald House families in downtown Orlando.
It’s all part of a nationwide effort of 25,000 volunteers across North America for the fourth annual Team Honda Week of Service to commemorate Honda’s 60th anniversary. It is also the 80th anniversary year for the Holler and Classic dealerships, making it especially meaningful for the Holler Honda and Classic Honda volunteers.
“We all felt part of something big, something special,” said Qui Duong, a sales associate at Classic Honda. “From chopping onions to doing homework, we all enjoyed doing things we don’t always look forward to at home,” he laughed. “But doing it for these kids? This community? I can’t wait to do it again.”
Classic Honda associates chose to serve at Ivey Lane Elementary, part of the Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) district, because it is primarily populated by students of families at or below the poverty level. According to OCPS, 90.1% of Ivey Lane students are on the free lunch program.
Second Harvest Food Bank was selected due to the community’s urgent need to feed those less fortunate, and preparing meals at the Ronald McDonald House was personal to many of the employees who understand what it feels like to have a child with a severe illness, and the stress it can cause on families away from home.
